Ethereum Co-Founder Vitalik Buterin Speaks Out on 9th Anniversary
Today, July 30, commemorates the ninth anniversary of the initiation of the primary network of Ethereum (ETH), a significant event celebrated by many enthusiasts as the blockchain’s birthday.
Nine years on, Ethereum has ascended to become the largest altcoin in the market and the second most prominent cryptocurrency following Bitcoin. Presently, the market capitalization of ETH, the network’s native token, stands at $401 million, with the total value locked in the blockchain nearing $60 billion.
On this very day in 2015, Stephan Tual, the former Chief Operating Officer of the Ethereum Foundation, officially announced the network rollout through a blog post. Tual articulated a vision of a world computer that is programmable and resistant to censorship.
In a twist of fate, today, it was Vitalik Buterin, the founder of Ethereum, who took to sharing his thoughts. Buterin extended his congratulations to Ethereum on its ninth anniversary and expressed anticipation for what the forthcoming decade holds.
Ethereum’s trajectory continues to align with its roadmap through ongoing development efforts. Following a sequence of upgrades and proposal executions, the blockchain is on course for its upcoming milestones.
The Verge and Purge upgrades are next in line. The Verge upgrade is set to introduce Verkle trees, enabling the operation of stateless clients and reducing the node operation costs. This modification is anticipated to facilitate a tenfold surge in the layer-1 gas limit, ultimately reducing transaction costs.
The objective is to streamline the Ethereum Virtual Machine by eliminating certain functionalities, thereby enhancing the efficiency of the EVM.
