Pixelcraft Studios, the creator of the popular crypto game Aavegotchi, is venturing into the realm of blockchain gaming with the development of Geist, a specialized Ethereum layer-3 gaming network. Geist is designed as a “members-only” platform utilizing the scaling technologies of Arbitrum and Base to address concerns about the prevalence of “industrial farming” in the crypto gaming sector that hinders genuine player engagement.
In the words of Pixelcraft Studios’ CEO and founder, Coder Dan, the issue lies in the dominance of “industrial farmers” within the crypto gaming landscape, whose primary goal is to extract maximum value from the system. This trend has been exacerbated by the rise of play-to-earn games and airdrop campaigns, such as those seen in popular titles like Hamster Kombat and Axie Infinity.
However, Pixelcraft Studios aims to disrupt this model by introducing a subscription-based approach with Geist, where players can access rewards by paying a monthly fee while still allowing free gameplay. This strategy is intended to foster a sustainable GameFi ecosystem by reducing artificial activities and enhancing rewards for legitimate players.
Geist’s membership system will offer various benefits, including badges, player profile enhancements, loot boxes, staking rewards, and participation in airdrop campaigns. The platform will initially be exclusive to Aavegotchi NFT holders, with invitations extended to select communities, games, and influencers to promote network growth.
Moreover, all games on Geist will be integrated with the Aavegotchi IP, ensuring a cohesive gaming experience and promoting interoperability across different titles. The platform’s launch is anticipated by the end of September or October, with Pixelcraft Studios planning to release four games initially, followed by additional titles shortly after.
