‘W-Coin Game on Telegram Chooses TON Token Over Solana and Ethereum as Players’ Preference Shifts’
The developers behind W-Coin, a game on Telegram where players can earn by tapping, have allowed players to choose the blockchain network on which to mint its token. In a recent announcement, it was revealed that players overwhelmingly selected The Open Network (TON), the preferred network for Telegram’s ecosystem.
TON emerged as the clear winner in the player poll, garnering 68% of the votes from over 8.8 million players. Solana secured the second spot with 24% of the votes, while Ethereum lagged behind with only 8% of the votes.
Despite Solana and Ethereum being more established networks with higher ecosystem values, TON has forged a strong association with Telegram and will serve as the host network for tokens of various games on the platform.
Originally developed by Telegram, TON now operates independently with contributions from community developers after Telegram’s departure in 2020 due to regulatory concerns. Telegram has since embraced TON, integrating it into various aspects such as compensating channel owners with crypto revenue shares and introducing an in-app currency linked to TON.
The rise of Telegram mini apps centered around cryptocurrency, particularly tap-to-earn games like Notcoin and the upcoming Hamster Kombat, has been notable. Notcoin’s TON token, NOT, was the most significant gaming token launch this year, reaching a peak market cap of nearly $3 billion before experiencing a decline.
Hamster Kombat has amassed over 300 million players and is set to launch its HMSTR token on TON on September 26. Other Telegram games planning to launch tokens on TON soon include Rocky Rabbit and X Empire.
The timeline for W-Coin’s WCOIN token launch remains undisclosed. With close to 20 million players to date, the game recently introduced a “W-AI” game mode allowing players to invest in enhancing a fictional trading bot that generates passive income.
