Alberta Bitcoin Extortionist and Arsonist Arrested in Calgary
Hey there! Have you heard about the recent arrest of Finbar Hughes in Calgary? This 21-year-old suspect is in hot water for allegedly trying to extort Bitcoin from victims in the Hillhurst community by threatening to burn down their homes. Yikes!
Calgary police identified Hughes after an arson incident in Hillhurst and arrested him on Dec. 4. It turns out he’s also linked to similar plots in Edmonton this fall. The Edmonton Police Service reported fires in Holyrood and Cloverdale neighborhoods, where handwritten notes were left demanding Bitcoin payments to avoid more fires.
