Bitcoin is on the rise, and Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim is eager to get the city involved. In a recent interview on Coin Stories with host Natalie Brunell, Mayor Sim talked about his deep interest in the world of cryptocurrency.

During the interview, Mayor Sim mentioned that he has been “orange-pilled,” a term used to show dedication to Bitcoin. He spoke passionately about Bitcoin, calling it the greatest invention in human history.

Mayor Sim is planning to present a motion to city council titled, “Preserving of the City’s Purchasing Power Through Diversification of Financial Reserves – Becoming A Bitcoin Friendly City.” He clarified that the motion does not immediately mean putting Bitcoin on the city’s balance sheet but rather exploring how Vancouver can potentially incorporate Bitcoin into its financial strategy.

Although Mayor Sim is enthusiastic about the potential of Bitcoin, not everyone shares his excitement. Dan Rohde, an assistant professor of law at the University of Windsor, expressed skepticism about the idea of a municipality investing in such a volatile asset.

Despite the differing opinions, Mayor Sim remains focused on the benefits of Bitcoin. He believes that the city’s affordability crisis is closely linked to currency devaluation and sees Bitcoin as a potential solution.

While some may question Mayor Sim’s motives, he emphasized that his goal is to do what’s right for the residents of Vancouver and the world. His unwavering belief in the power of cryptocurrency is a central theme of his vision for the future.

As Bitcoin continues to make headlines with its record-breaking numbers, Mayor Sim’s advocacy for the cryptocurrency signals a potential shift in how cities approach financial matters. Whether or not Vancouver becomes a Bitcoin-friendly city remains to be seen, but Mayor Sim’s enthusiasm for exploring new possibilities is clear.
