Bitcoin mining facility in Grundy County suffers fire damage on Sunday
A Bitcoin mining facility near Grundy Center faced significant damage from a fire on Sunday evening. Firefighters from Wellsburg, Holland, and Grundy Center swiftly responded to the blaze at the MiningStore facility, just north of the Highway 14/175 junction, approximately eight miles west of Grundy Center. The fire was already venting through the top of the hoop building when the emergency crews arrived at around 6:15 p.m.
The industrial-scale cryptocurrency mining facility, powered by a partnership with the Grundy County Rural Electric Cooperative, had 1,700 crypto-mining computers with nine on-site engineers managing the servers. Thankfully, no injuries were reported during the incident.
MiningStore, based in Texas, established the Grundy County facility in 2020. At this time, the extent of the damage and future plans for the location remain unclear as MiningStore representatives have not provided a comment on the matter.
